Neuraspace Secures $18M for Space Safety

Portuguese space startup Neuraspace announced on August 5, 2026, that it has secured 15.6 million euros ($18 million) in new funding. This investment aims to enhance European space domain awareness and defense capabilities.

The funding package comprises a six million euro Series B round from venture capitalists, supplemented by 9.6 million euros from Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan. This public funding is specifically allocated to support NeuraspaceDEF, an artificial intelligence-driven dual-use platform for government and defense users focused on space domain awareness.

Neuraspace's technology integrates data from various sources, including public catalogs, ground-based telescopes, and its own optical sensors. The goal is to provide near-real-time orbital information, collision alerts, and maneuver guidance to satellite operators. For government and defense clients, the platform offers anomaly detection, threat assessment, and autonomous decision-making tools.

The company has reported revenue growth exceeding 350% in the past year, attributed to the increasing congestion in low Earth orbit. This latest funding brings Neuraspace's total raised capital to approximately 29 million euros since its inception in 2020. Future plans include augmenting existing optical telescopes with radar sensors to create a multi-source data strategy.

With the rise in proliferating satellite constellations, collision risks are escalating, alongside threats such as cyberattacks and interference. Neuraspace's CEO, Chiara Manfletti, stated that the company's mission has evolved to address both accidental risks and intentional threats, emphasizing that safety and security are now interconnected operational challenges.

Recent developments include a partnership with the Portuguese Air Force to host an optical telescope and selection for NATO's Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic program in 2026. Neuraspace was also chosen as a prime contractor by a European defense ministry, with further details expected in September.
