Neuralink Promises Full Body Functionality Restoration
3 Jan
Summary
- Neuralink aims to restore full body function for spinal cord injury patients.
- The technology bridges motor cortex signals past damaged nerves in the spine.
- Neuralink is also targeting vision restoration, even for those blind from birth.

Elon Musk revealed that Neuralink's brain-computer interface technology holds the potential to restore full body functionality for individuals suffering from severed spinal cords.
The innovative system is designed to bridge communication signals from the motor cortex past damaged areas in the spine or neck. This advancement, announced in 2022, began human testing in the same year, with 12 patients having received implants as of September.
Beyond motor function, Neuralink is also aggressively pursuing vision restoration. Their Blindsight implant, which aims to help the visually impaired see, received FDA breakthrough status in September 2024 and is expected to enter high-volume production with automated surgery by 2026.
