Summary
- New $1.4 million simulators train MTA bus drivers.
- Simulators replicate various bus types and NYC streets.
- Over 4,300 operators to train annually on new systems.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has introduced advanced simulator technology to train its bus operators, costing the agency $1.4 million.
These new simulators are designed to replicate the experience of driving various bus models, including diesel, hybrid, electric, and articulated vehicles. They aim to provide drivers with a realistic understanding of New York City's complex street layouts before they operate a real bus.
With one simulator at Brooklyn's Spring Creek Depot and three at the Zerega Training Center in the Bronx, the MTA anticipates that at least 4,300 bus operators will utilize this technology each year. MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber noted the immediate benefits, emphasizing improved driver confidence and safety on city streets.
