MSI Claw's AI Powers Boost Frame Rates Dramatically

The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ introduces Intel's XeSS 3, an AI-powered upscaling technology designed to enhance gaming performance. This system utilizes multi-frame generation (MFG), which can insert up to three artificial frames between each real frame rendered by the hardware, dramatically increasing the final frame rate.

In testing with Cyberpunk 2077 on its Ultra preset, XeSS 3 with MFG pushed frame rates from 35fps to an astonishing 153fps. This advancement offers a significant leap over traditional upscaling techniques like AMD's FSR. However, these AI enhancements come with visual trade-offs, including pop-in and noise, though the smaller 8-inch screen helps mitigate these issues.

The handheld's premium performance is matched by a premium price of $1,800. This high cost is attributed to a combination of factors, including tariffs and the increased demand for AI-driven hardware, which has driven up component prices. Despite its capabilities, the significant cost raises questions about its value proposition, especially when compared to less expensive competitors.
