Morphotonics, a Dutch firm specializing in nanoimprint lithography (NIL), has successfully raised €40 million. This significant investment, achieved through an extended round initiated in 2024, will fuel the scaling of its production capabilities.
The company's NIL technology is pivotal for creating waveguide displays used in augmented reality glasses and other optical devices. These displays are essential for popular smart glasses, with global sales expected to reach 12.2 million units by 2030.
Beyond its current focus on smart glasses, Morphotonics is strategically expanding into new markets. This includes developing optical components for data centers and exploring co-packaged optics for efficient data transfer using light.
The recent funding has enabled Morphotonics to more than double its workforce to 60 employees, with plans to grow to 70-75. The company sells both hardware and licensing, aiming for 50 system deployments globally within the next two to three years.
