Minisforum's Black Friday in July sale features price reductions on two distinct slim mini PCs. The UM760 Slim, equipped with a Ryzen 5 7640HS CPU, is now priced at $600, down from its original $680. This model is suitable for everyday computing tasks and light multitasking.
For those requiring enhanced performance, the UM870 Slim, powered by a more potent Ryzen 7 8745H processor, is available for $700, a decrease from $800. This model offers an advantage with its 8 cores, 16 threads, and a newer Radeon 780M GPU, making it ideal for content creation, coding, or casual 1080p gaming. Independent benchmarks indicate its multi-core performance is among the top tier of current mini PCs.
Connectivity is another distinguishing factor, with the UM870 Slim featuring dual 2.5G Ethernet ports and triple display output, surpassing the UM760 Slim's single display capability. These networking and display enhancements alone may justify the $100 price difference for home server or multi-monitor workstation setups.
Potential buyers should note that the blue status LED on Minisforum's UM-series machines can be distractingly bright. Additionally, some reviewers have reported driver support issues with the bundled Wi-Fi cards for Linux users, though wired Ethernet connections circumvent this.
