- New Surface Laptop starts at $1,599, a $600 increase.
- Surface Pro's new starting configuration costs $1,499.
- PC industry faces inflated RAM and storage prices.

Microsoft has unveiled updates for its Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, now featuring the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 chips. These processors promise up to 53 percent faster graphics performance and extended battery life. The new Surface Laptop begins at $1,599, marking a substantial $600 increase over the previous generation's launch price, and now includes only 256 GB of storage. The Surface Pro also sees a significant price adjustment, with its new starting configuration at $1,499 for 256 GB of storage, not including the keyboard.
These price surges are attributed to a persistent component supply shortage affecting the PC industry, driving up RAM and storage costs. Despite the higher prices and reduced base storage, the devices retain preferred features like the 3:2 aspect ratio display. New color options, 'Jade' for the laptop and 'Dune' for the Pro, are also introduced. Both updated devices are available starting today, following Microsoft's earlier announcement of the Surface Laptop Ultra.
