Forced AI: LG TVs Get Unremovable Copilot

Microsoft's Copilot artificial intelligence application has recently begun appearing on LG televisions, a development drawing criticism from consumers who feel AI is being unnecessarily imposed upon them. Reports indicate the app cannot be deleted from the TV's interface without disconnecting the television from the internet, which may disable other essential features and prevent future updates.

Both LG and Samsung announced their respective integrations of Microsoft Copilot back in January 2025 at the CES technology conference. Samsung began installing the Copilot app on its 2025 smart TV models in late August, enabling users to interact with it for content suggestions and trivia. LG's rollout has been less publicized, with the icon appearing as a shortcut to a web-based version of Copilot rather than a native application.

The primary concern highlighted by users is not the functionality of the Copilot app itself, but its non-removable nature. This forced presence on the TV's home screen has led to a sense of being overwhelmed by unsolicited technology, with users expressing a desire for more control over the software installed on their devices.
