Meta is introducing a new social feature for its virtual spaces, allowing users to invite friends to join them in digital environments created with Hyperspace. This update enables up to eight individuals, aged 18 and older, to gather in a virtual space using an invitation link, fostering shared experiences remotely.
The capability leverages Hyperspace Capture, a technology demonstrated earlier this year, which allows for the creation of digital replicas of real-world locations using a Meta Quest headset. Users can personalize their virtual hangouts by scanning their own homes or explore digital versions of celebrity spaces.
This feature is being gradually rolled out to user accounts. Meta has also indicated plans to increase the maximum number of participants in these metaverse gatherings in the future, signaling ongoing development in its virtual social offerings.
