22 May
Summary
- Meta quietly launched a new app called Forum for Facebook Groups.
- Forum offers AI features like 'Ask' to answer questions across groups.
- The app requires a Facebook account, allowing anonymized usernames.

Meta has introduced a new application named Forum, which is dedicated to facilitating conversations within Facebook Groups. This app was discovered in the App Store, described as a space for essential conversations, specifically created for Facebook Groups. Forum aims to provide users with direct answers from other users, drawing a parallel to platforms like Reddit.
To use Forum, individuals require a Facebook account, and their existing profile information will be carried over. Although not designed for anonymous interaction like Reddit, Forum permits the use of anonymized usernames, mirroring a feature on the main Facebook application. Administrators, however, will retain visibility of users' true identities.
The Forum app presents a distinct feed focused solely on conversations from a user's various Groups, differing from the main Facebook feed. Upon first login, it prompts users to indicate their interests, likely influencing the display of posts from other relevant Groups. Interactions within Forum will sync with the main Facebook app, allowing seamless continuation of discussions across both platforms.
This initiative follows Meta's prior launch of a standalone Groups app, which was discontinued in 2017. The new Forum app integrates AI functionalities. The 'Ask' feature assists users by retrieving answers across different groups, eliminating the need for manual searching. An additional AI tool serves as an admin assistant to aid group moderators. Meta has stated that Forum is currently in a testing phase, with the company evaluating user interest and utility.
