Meta's New Badge: Prove You're Human
24 Jul
Summary
- Video selfies will verify users against AI-generated fakery.
- A new badge confirms real people on Facebook platforms.
- A standalone Seller app manages Facebook Marketplace listings.

Meta is implementing new measures to distinguish real users from AI-generated content on its platforms. A new human-verification badge, featuring a monochrome checkmark, will soon appear next to user names on Facebook Marketplace, Dating, Groups, Profiles, and in general feeds. This initiative aims to assure users they are interacting with genuine individuals as AI technology advances.
To obtain this badge, users aged 18 and over, in good standing with community standards, must submit a short video selfie. Meta will compare this video to existing photos to confirm identity. This feature is beginning its rollout in select markets this week.
In parallel, Meta has launched a standalone application called Seller, designed for Facebook Marketplace. This app provides a dedicated space for users to manage their listings, communicate with potential buyers, and track sales performance. It allows for the import of existing Marketplace data and offers tools for generating listing descriptions and prices using Meta AI.
The Seller app is currently available in the US on iOS for users aged 18 and older. Listings created within the Seller app will automatically appear on Facebook Marketplace, offering a streamlined experience for sellers.
