Meccha Chameleon Hackers Seize Discord Server
27 Jul
Summary
- Malicious Steam Workshop maps infected PCs via downloads.
- Hackers gained remote access, seized the official Discord server.
- Game developers have since released an update to fix the flaw.

Players of the indie game Meccha Chameleon were recently alerted to a security threat posed by malicious Steam Workshop maps. These custom maps secretly installed malware on players' computers upon loading. This malware provided attackers with ongoing remote access to infected systems.
The attackers leveraged this access to compromise the game's official Discord server. They manipulated server permissions and banned staff members from the community, which boasted approximately 100,000 members. Importantly, the compromised systems reportedly did not have access to the game's source code or developer accounts.
Developers released update 3.1.0, which fixed the vulnerability and disabled the malicious code on affected maps. A new community server has been established while the studio seeks assistance from Discord's support team.
