Summary
- Maxsun's Z890 workstation detaches the graphics card from the motherboard.
- MCIO connectors enable the GPU to reside on an opposite chassis side.
- This design offers greater flexibility for compact and high-density systems.

Chinese manufacturer Maxsun has introduced a groundbreaking workstation concept featuring a relocated graphics card. This Z890 Mini-ITX system leverages MCIO connectors to position the GPU away from the motherboard, allowing them to occupy opposite sides of a compact chassis. This innovation enhances design freedom for small, high-density machines by routing the PCIe connection through wiring.
While Mini-ITX boards are small at 17 cm by 17 cm, Maxsun's MCIO solution provides PCIe Gen5 support and various lane configurations like x8+x8. The demonstration showcased the components within a Cooler Master chassis, though an adapter is needed for current graphics cards. Maxsun has not yet announced availability or pricing for this workstation.
