18 Mar
Summary
- Hundreds of thousands of customers had personal financial data stolen.
- Names, birth dates, addresses, and SSNs were compromised.
- A lawsuit was filed against firewall provider SonicWall for alleged security failings.

Marquis, a fintech company serving numerous banks, has reported a substantial ransomware attack that occurred in August 2025. This cyber incident resulted in the theft of personal and sensitive financial information belonging to at least 672,075 individuals. The breach compromised data such as customers' names, dates of birth, postal addresses, bank account numbers, debit and credit card details, and Social Security numbers.
More than half of the affected individuals reside in Texas, according to state filings. In February of this year, Marquis filed a lawsuit against its firewall provider, SonicWall. The company alleges that security lapses by SonicWall allowed hackers to access critical firewall information, which was subsequently exploited to infiltrate Marquis' network, steal customer data, and deploy ransomware.
This disclosure provides the most complete understanding to date of the breach's scale. Marquis' legal action claims SonicWall's vulnerabilities facilitated the theft of customer firewall backup files, including those belonging to Marquis.
