- Advanced Emergency Braking mandatory for new cars by October 2030.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has initiated a significant upgrade to vehicle safety standards, proposing mandatory Advanced Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS) for new car models by October 1, 2030. This advanced driver assistance feature automatically applies brakes to prevent or mitigate collisions.
All passenger vehicles (M1 category) will need to comply with these AEBS mandates by October 1, 2032. The ministry is also introducing new regulations for steering and lane-keeping systems, with specific dates set for compliance starting October 1, 2027. Commercial vehicles will see enhanced safety measures, including AEBS, from January 2027.
Further proposals include revised braking standards and electronic stability control for trucks starting October 1, 2027. Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication is slated for mandatory implementation in all new vehicles by October 1, 2028. These measures aim to significantly improve road safety and reduce accidents across India. The draft rules are open for public consultation for 30 days.
