New research indicates a significant security vulnerability across Mac and mobile environments, with over half of organizations running critically outdated operating systems. Specifically, 58% of macOS devices and 53% of mobile devices are affected. Nearly all mobile applications assessed (95%) exhibited medium-severity vulnerabilities, further exacerbating the risk to sensitive company data when combined with outdated OS versions.
Mac shipments experienced a notable 16.4% increase between 2024 and 2025, a growth rate surpassing other major brands. Concurrently, over 26,000 macOS malware samples were identified in 2025, with 73% of Macs now hosting at least one vulnerable app. This escalating threat landscape underscores the importance of regular software updates to patch vulnerabilities and enhance security.
