8 Apr
Summary
- Mac Mini demand surges for AI agent experiments.
- Astropad launches Workbench for remote AI agent access.
- Workbench offers voice control and cross-device support.

The Mac Mini is experiencing a significant surge in demand, particularly in China, as it has become a favored platform for developing and experimenting with autonomous AI agents. Recognizing this trend, Astropad has introduced Astropad Workbench, a remote desktop solution specifically designed for the needs of the AI era.
Workbench enables users to remotely access and manage AI agents running on Mac Minis. Key features include high-fidelity streaming, voice command dictation, and support for various input methods like keyboards and Apple Pencil. The solution offers clients for iPad and iPhone, allowing for convenient on-the-go monitoring.
Astropad CEO Matt Ronge highlighted that while AI agents may not need a screen, their human operators do require a way to monitor progress, check logs, and restart tasks. Workbench aims to fill this gap, offering a more specialized solution than existing general-purpose remote desktop tools.
The software utilizes Astropad's proprietary LIQUID display protocol, ensuring high fidelity without pixelation. This protocol already powers other Astropad products. The company plans to add Windows and Linux support soon and is refining the iPhone app.
Workbench is available for macOS 15 and iOS 26. A free version offers 20 minutes of daily access, with an unlimited subscription costing $10 per month or $50 annually. Astropad, a bootstrapped company, anticipates Workbench will appeal to both individual AI enthusiasts and businesses seeking productivity gains.
