Lucid, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has revealed a concept for a two-seater robotaxi that notably lacks a steering wheel and pedals. This unveiling, part of the company's investor day event, also introduced subscription services for its advanced self-driving technology. The robotaxi is projected to have a 40% lower operating cost and an efficiency of approximately 5.5 miles per kilowatt hour.
These new self-driving subscriptions are set to range from $69 to $199 per month, depending on the chosen level of autonomous capability. This strategy aligns Lucid with other major automakers like Tesla and Rivian, who are also increasingly focusing on recurring revenue streams through software and subscription models. Lucid is pursuing a dual approach by partnering with other companies for robotaxis and selling EVs with similar autonomous features.
In addition to its own robotaxi ambitions, Lucid has partnered with Uber and Nuro to commercialize a robotaxi utilizing its Gravity SUVs this year. The company is also working on a more affordable mid-size EV platform to expand its market reach beyond its luxury Air sedans.
