Linux Gaming Gets Major Boost with New OGC

The Linux gaming landscape is set to see significant advancements with the formation of the Open Gaming Collective (OGC). Announced by Universal Blue, the developer behind the Bazzite gaming distribution, the OGC is a collaborative initiative involving several other prominent groups. Its primary mission is to centralize and enhance crucial elements of the Linux gaming ecosystem. This includes focusing on vital areas such as kernel patches, input tooling, and essential gaming packages like gamescope. Other founding members contributing to this effort include Nobara, ChimeraOS, Playtron, Fyra Labs, PikaOS, ShadowBlip, and Asus Linux. The collective aims to foster better hardware compatibility and reduce duplicated efforts across different projects. This unified approach is expected to result in a more cohesive and improved gaming experience for users across various Linux distributions. Bazzite, for instance, will transition to the OGC kernel and integrate new input frameworks and features.
