As internet fatigue and nostalgia converge, there's a growing interest among young people for flip phones, seen as both stylish and a break from constant online engagement. Light, a company focused on distraction-free technology, has introduced its latest product, the Light Flip, designed to meet this desire for simpler mobile devices.
The Light Flip builds upon the philosophy of Light Phones, which run on LightOS—a minimalist operating system derived from Android. This system intentionally excludes social media and endless feeds, prioritizing only essential utilities like an alarm, music player, and GPS. The core aim of LightOS is to minimize user screen time.
Distinct from standard Light Phones, the Light Flip features a touchless screen and a traditional T9 keypad, enhanced with voice-to-text and audio messaging capabilities. While compact, it measures 19mm thick when folded. The device is equipped with a 2.8-inch OLED screen, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 50-megapixel camera, and a replaceable 1,800 mAh battery.
Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Notably, it also retains a headphone jack and a charm loop. The Light Flip is priced at $299, with the initial wave of preorders scheduled to be delivered in April 2027.
