6 May
Summary
- LG Display introduces flexible OLED screens for robots.
- P-OLED tech offers durability in extreme temperatures.
- Flexible screens are also eyed for automotive and laptop use.

LG Display, primarily known for TV, monitor, and phone panels, is exploring new applications for its flexible P-OLED technology, particularly in robotics. The company recently unveiled a robot head concept featuring a P-OLED screen that wraps around its face, resembling a humanoid display.
This flexible screen technology demonstrates various functions, such as displaying greetings and system status. A key advantage of LG's P-OLED is its robust durability, capable of functioning in temperatures ranging from -30 to 85 degrees Celsius.
While companies are increasingly developing humanoid robots, LG suggests its P-OLED tech could be integrated into other robot parts and support touch functionality, despite being more costly than conventional OLED panels.
LG also highlighted P-OLED's potential in the automotive sector, proposing curved displays for car interiors, including drop-down screens for entertainment and communication.
Furthermore, LG is developing new 13- and 16-inch OLED panels for laptops, emphasizing reduced power consumption for extended battery life. These pre-production laptop displays are noted for being thinner and lighter, potentially increasing battery usage by up to 2.3 hours.
