- Designed for reliability, not speed, handling 4K ProRes 60 fps.
- Compact, lightweight aluminum build with drop protection.

Data security has become paramount, and encrypting sensitive information is no longer optional. Lexar's TouchLock Portable SSD offers a novel solution, allowing users to unlock their drive simply by tapping their smartphone against its NFC touchpad. This innovative approach eliminates the hassle often associated with encryption.
The drive itself is constructed from lightweight aluminum, measuring just 3.37 x 2.09 x 0.28 inches and weighing a mere 1.4 ounces. It features a MagSafe ring for easy attachment to iPhones and a USB-C port. Lexar designed the TouchLock with reliability as a priority, employing a custom low-power controller that minimizes heat while enhancing durability. It boasts a 6.5-foot drop resistance.
While not built for peak performance, the TouchLock SSD can achieve read speeds of 420Mbps and write speeds of 450Mbps. This performance is sufficient for recording 4K ProRes 60 frames-per-second video directly from an iPhone. Setup involves downloading the Lexar app and using the NFC feature to pair your smartphone, which then acts as the key.
Once set up, accessing the drive is a swift process: connect it to any device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer), tap the paired smartphone to the NFC pad, and the drive unlocks in seconds. It then functions as a standard external drive. A backup passcode is available in case the phone is lost or the app is wiped.
The Lexar TouchLock Portable SSD is available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, priced at $94 and $143, respectively. It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter, along with a magnetic ring for non-iPhone attachment.
