A new Bailey bridge, established to connect Salt Lake AA Block with VIP Road near Dakshindari, is currently undergoing a trial run by the Bidhannagar traffic police. This vital infrastructure aims to facilitate smoother traffic movement, particularly for vehicles heading towards the airport. The trial period, running daily from 9 am to 9 pm, allows authorities to meticulously assess the bridge's capacity and determine which vehicle classifications will be permitted for continuous, round-the-clock, two-way traffic.
Officials are contemplating the installation of height bars as a measure to restrict access for heavier vehicles, given that the canal-side road at the Salt Lake end is not sufficiently wide for such traffic entering from VIP Road. A final inspection is slated to take place in the coming days, following which the bridge is expected to be fully operational. The police are also focusing on ensuring 24-hour traffic surveillance at key points where vehicles transition from Salt Lake to VIP Road.
