JBL Live Flex 4: Smart Case Earbuds Surprise

The JBL Live Flex 4 earbuds are designed with comfort as a top priority, featuring a lightweight, relaxed fit perfect for on-the-go listening. These earbuds offer both Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and transparency modes, effectively managing ambient sound. A standout feature is the smart charging case, equipped with a touchscreen that allows users to adjust ANC, EQ, and playback without needing their source device.

While the smart case might seem like a gimmick, it is highly responsive and offers extensive functionality, including call enhancements and spatial audio toggles. The JBL Headphones app provides additional features like custom case wallpapers and support for the LDAC high-resolution audio codec, though this is exclusive to most Android phones.

The ANC on the Live Flex 4 is surprisingly effective for an open-fit design, significantly muffling common background noises like traffic and office chatter. Call quality is clear due to a six-microphone system, ensuring comprehensible speech even in noisy environments.

Battery life is robust, with seven hours of playback with ANC on and up to 10 hours with ANC off. The charging case extends this to a total of 48 hours. While the sound quality is good, with a spacious soundstage and impactful bass, the relaxed fit means it's less concentrated than in-ear designs. However, tweaks to the EQ can enhance the low-end. The earbuds are also IP54-rated for dust and splash resistance.

Priced at £179.99 (approximately $240 / AU$340), the JBL Live Flex 4 are positioned as a strong competitor, particularly for Android users seeking advanced features. They offer a compelling package of sound quality, a feature-rich smart case, effective ANC, and good battery life, making them a recommended all-around choice.
