Summary
- Japan aims to deploy 10 million humanoid robots by 2040.
- Robots will fill roles in eldercare, manufacturing, and disaster response.
- Noetra, a joint venture, will lead mass robot development.

Japan has announced a significant national goal to produce and deploy approximately 10 million humanoid robots by the year 2040. This strategic initiative is designed to counteract the impacts of an aging population and a declining workforce. The government plans to integrate these robots into 18 key job sectors, including crucial areas such as eldercare, food manufacturing, and disaster response.
The responsibility for the large-scale development of these humanoid robots has been assigned to Noetra, a collaborative venture established by SoftBank, NEC, Sony Group, and Honda. To expedite this deployment, Japan will establish AI robotics core centers, serving as crucial hubs for research, talent development, and industry integration.
Beyond Japan, other nations are also investing heavily in humanoid robotics. China aims to deploy 10,000 robots commercially by the end of 2026, and South Korea, through Hyundai Motor Group, plans to deploy humanoid robots in its U.S. manufacturing plants starting in 2028. Countries like Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Germany are also actively researching and investing in this field.
