- iRobot's Duo concept showcases potential future innovations in smart home cleaning technology.
iRobot showcased a revolutionary concept at IFA: the Roomba Duo. This innovative robot vacuum integrates two units into one sophisticated cleaning system. During a demonstration, the main unit effortlessly cleaned a pile of spaghetti from the floor and then proceeded to wash the affected carpet area.
Following this, the larger robot deployed a smaller, independent unit from a compartment using a mechanical arm. This companion robot, the Roomba Plus 575 Combo, proved agile, navigating a 1.3-inch threshold with ease.
A company spokeswoman explained the benefit: the main unit handles large areas and tough messes, while the smaller robot cleans confined or difficult-to-reach spots, all coordinated via a smartphone app. Examples include the small unit cleaning under sofas while the main unit addresses kitchen spills.
Although iRobot has no immediate plans to bring the Roomba Duo concept to market, it offers a compelling glimpse into the future of smart home cleaning. It addresses key consumer pain points, promising more efficient and comprehensive home maintenance solutions.
