The allure of the classic iPod is experiencing a resurgence, with new high-resolution audio players emerging that echo the beloved designs of Apple's past devices. Fiio launched the Echo Nano in early August 2026, priced at $49.99. This compact player features a physical scroll wheel, a 0.91-inch display, and supports up to 256GB via microSD, offering a seven-hour battery life and USB DAC functionality.
Following this, Shanling introduced the Q2 in late August 2026 for $269. This model, reminiscent of the third-generation iPod Nano, boasts four DAC chips for superior audio quality, supporting formats up to 768kHz/32-bit and DSD512. It includes Bluetooth output and dual headphone jacks, with extensive microSD storage capacity up to 2TB. The Q2 also features a 13.5-hour battery life and a companion smartphone app for control.
These releases highlight a growing demand for distraction-free, dedicated music devices that allow users to avoid streaming. The trend sees a rise in transportable SACD players, retro cassette players, and throwback turntables, indicating a market shift towards tangible, focused audio experiences.
