iPhone Hackers Beware: New Security Update Coming
18 Feb
Summary
- New iOS feature protects against passcode-enabled theft.
- Security Delay requires a second Face ID/Touch ID check.
- Future iOS updates may enable this protection by default.

A significant security enhancement is on the horizon for iPhones, aimed at preventing theft scenarios where thieves gain access using a known passcode. This new feature, Stolen Device Protection, mandates Face ID or Touch ID for sensitive actions.
Introduced to combat scams targeting users in public places, the feature prevents unauthorized access to saved passwords, payment methods, and account changes. It specifically addresses the vulnerability where a stolen iPhone could be reset or compromised remotely.
The Security Delay component adds another layer of defense. It imposes a mandatory hour-long wait, with a second biometric authentication, before critical changes like Apple ID password resets or disabling "Find My" can be made.
While currently requiring manual activation, upcoming iOS versions, including iOS 26.4, are anticipated to have Stolen Device Protection enabled by default. This aims to provide enhanced security for all users, protecting against unauthorized access and financial loss.
