iPhone 18 Pro Ditches Black: What's Next?
3 Apr
Summary
- iPhone 18 Pro may not feature a black color option.
- This would be the second consecutive year without black.
- Apple's color choices consider design, material, and brand expression.
In September 2026, Apple is expected to release the iPhone 18 Pro, but reports suggest it will not come in black. This would be the second consecutive year without the color option, a significant departure from tradition as black has been available on flagship iPhones since their inception in 2007. Previous variations included space gray, graphite, space black, and black titanium.
Anonymous insider Instant Digital shared this information on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. This leaker has a history of accurate predictions, including the yellow iPhone 14 and the frosted back glass on the iPhone 15 models. While black may be absent, Apple might introduce bold new colors, with rumors pointing to a potential deep red variant for the iPhone 18 Pro, possibly inspired by the success of the orange iPhone 17 Pro.
Beyond color, leaks suggest the iPhone 18 Pro may feature a smaller Dynamic Island, a variable camera aperture, and a larger battery. Importantly, there are indications that the price will remain unchanged. Apple has not officially commented on the color options. The company considers factors like how colors interact with the phone's design and materials, and what message they aim to convey for the year's product line.
