iPhone 18 Pro Max: Price Skyrockets to $1949?
13 Aug
Summary
- iPhone 18 Pro Max BoM could reach $1,000, a $300 increase.
- Current iPhone 17 Pro Max costs $1,599; iPhone 18 might hit $1949.
- Memory shortage due to AI boom is a key driver of price increases.

The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models may experience a more substantial price increase than anticipated, according to a recent report. The estimated Bill of Materials (BoM) for the iPhone 18 Pro Max could climb to approximately $1,000, representing a significant jump from the iPhone 17 Pro Max's estimated $500 build cost. This escalation is largely due to increased component expenses, with the ongoing memory shortage exacerbated by the AI boom identified as a primary factor.
Counterpoint Research projects that the BoM for the iPhone 18 Pro Max (12GB/1TB) could rise by $300 compared to its predecessor. Consequently, the retail price for the 1TB Pro Max model, currently $1,599, might increase by $250 to $350, potentially reaching $1,849 to $1,949. Apple faces a decision on whether to absorb these higher costs or pass them to consumers, balancing this with the need to protect its gross margins.
However, Apple may mitigate some of these price hikes through strategic negotiations with component suppliers. Recent reports indicate secured lower prices for OLED displays, a small but helpful reduction. Additionally, the Apple Upgrade program offers consumers lower monthly lease payments and upgrade options. The company might also implement tiered pricing, applying smaller increases to lower storage models and higher increases to the more popular, higher-capacity variants.
