Apple is reportedly set to alter its annual iPhone release schedule, dedicating its September 2026 event to the anticipated iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, alongside a rumored foldable 'iPhone Ultra'. Standard iPhone 18 models are now expected to launch in Spring 2027. This strategic focus targets the premium smartphone market.
The iPhone 18 Pro series is rumored to feature the A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC's 2nm process, promising significant performance and power efficiency gains. Both Pro models are also expected to include 12GB of RAM, supporting advanced AI features and enhanced Siri capabilities with iOS 27.
Display enhancements include an upgraded LTPO+ technology for improved efficiency and reduced flickering, along with brighter panels. A key visual change is the anticipated smaller Dynamic Island, potentially achieved by moving the Face ID flood illuminator under the display, reducing its width significantly.
The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro models is slated for a major overhaul, highlighted by a variable aperture for the main 48-megapixel camera, offering greater control over light and depth of field. Further upgrades include a larger telephoto aperture for better low-light performance and a new three-layer stacked image sensor.
While the overall design is expected to be refined, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may see a larger battery capacity. Color options are rumored to include Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver. Pricing for the Pro models is anticipated to increase, with estimates suggesting a rise of USD 50 to USD 300 compared to current models.
