Summary
- iPhone 17 Pro models facing discoloration issues
- Cosmic Orange variants shifting to pink or rose-gold
- Apple advises against using harsh cleaners on iPhones

As of 2025-10-24T20:22:05+00:00, Apple's latest iPhone 17 Pro models are facing a concerning quality control issue. Over the past several weeks, a growing number of users have reported that their Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max devices are slowly changing color, shifting from a deep orange to a pink or rose-gold tint.
The issue first gained attention on Reddit last month, where one user shared that their iPhone 17 Pro Max had developed a pinkish hue "without any unusual treatment." Since then, similar complaints have surfaced across social media, with users noting the glass back remains unchanged while the aluminum frame and camera area show visible discoloration, especially under sunlight.
Interestingly, most affected users say they've kept their phones in official Apple cases, ruling out direct exposure to harsh conditions as the cause. One user even claimed the camera module darkened within just four days of use.
While Apple is yet to release an official statement, its support page does offer some clues. The company advises users to avoid cleaning their iPhones with products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide, and instead recommends using alcohol-based wipes or a soft, damp cloth. Materials experts suggest the anodized aluminum used for the iPhone's frame is highly sensitive to strong oxidizers, which can degrade the color dyes applied during the anodizing process.
