Intel's i5-14400: Powerhouse CPU for Compact Builds?
23 May
Summary
- Features six P-cores and four E-cores with a 65W base TDP.
- Integrated UHD Graphics 730 is a step down from other 14th Gen chips.
- Designed for LGA 1700 platform, may require BIOS update.

The Intel Core i5-14400 processor utilizes the Raptor Lake Refresh architecture, featuring a hybrid design with six high-performance P-cores and four energy-efficient E-cores. This configuration supports up to 16 concurrent processing threads. Its P-cores reach speeds of 2.5GHz base and 4.7GHz turbo, while E-cores operate at 1.8GHz base and 3.5GHz turbo.
The Core i5-14400 has a notably lower L3 cache (20MB) compared to higher-end models like the i5-14600K. A significant advantage is its 65W base TDP, making it suitable for smaller PC builds, although it can peak at 148W. This is substantially lower than the 125W base TDP of the i5-14600K.
Graphics capabilities are handled by the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 730, which has 24 execution units. This is a downgrade from the UHD Graphics 770 found in many other 13th and 14th Gen processors. However, for non-gamers or those using a dedicated graphics card, the UHD 730 is adequate for daily operations.
Built for Intel's LGA 1700 platform, the Core i5-14400 may require a motherboard BIOS update for optimal performance. It officially supports DDR5 RAM running at 4,800MHz. The processor includes an Intel Laminar RM1 stock cooler, and any LGA 1700-compatible cooler should work effectively given its modest TDP.
