New Screens Outshine Intel's Latest Laptop CPUs
18 Mar
Summary
- New Intel chips offer marginal performance gains for 2026 gaming laptops.
- Updated laptops feature improved OLED screens, reducing reflections and glare.
- High-end gaming laptops with new Intel CPUs and OLED displays exceed $4,900.

Intel's newly released Core Ultra 200 HX Plus chips for 2026 gaming laptops offer incremental performance improvements over previous generations. The flagship Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, while maintaining the same core count and clock speed as its predecessor, boasts an enhanced die-to-die frequency. This translates to modest frame rate increases in some demanding games, such as a 10% boost in Cyberpunk 2077 and up to 24% in Borderlands 3.
However, the true highlight for upcoming gaming laptops appears to be advancements in display technology. Manufacturers like Alienware are equipping new models, including the 16-inch and 18-inch Area-51, with OLED screens featuring anti-glare coatings. These premium laptops, with top-tier CPUs and GPUs, are priced at $4,900 and are scheduled to ship starting in April 2026.
Other manufacturers are also integrating these new Intel processors into their refreshed lineups. Acer's Predator Helios Neo 16S AI will feature a 240Hz OLED screen and is expected in July 2026. Asus is updating its ROG Strix G16 and G18 models with higher refresh rate LCD and mini-LED displays, respectively, and will also feature the new Core Ultra 9 290HX. Pricing for these models remains undisclosed but is anticipated to be higher than previous iterations.
