Fujifilm's New Instant Camera Adds Built-in Filters
15 Oct
Summary
- Instax Square 2 offers two built-in lens filters: warm and cool.
- The camera features auto exposure, flash, and three shooting modes.
- New 'Soft Haze' film stock provides softer saturation and contrast.

Fujifilm is set to release the Instax Square 2 later this month, continuing its commitment to analog photography with a new square-format instant camera. This model builds upon previous designs, offering a "clean, new sculpted body" and enhanced functionality.
A significant new feature is the inclusion of two built-in lens filters, "Warm" and "Cool," which can be switched via a body-mounted control to alter the photo's tone and aesthetic. The camera also retains expected conveniences such as a selfie mirror, automatic exposure, and automatic flash.
Users can select from close-up, landscape, or standard shooting modes using a ring around the lens. The Instax Square 2 will be available in slate blue, misty white, and brick red color options. Alongside the camera, Fujifilm is launching a new "Soft Haze" film stock, characterized by reduced saturation and contrast for a softer visual effect.
Addressing battery concerns, the Square 2 operates on standard AA batteries, a departure from previous models requiring CR2 batteries. Both the Instax Square 2 and the Soft Haze film are scheduled for release in late October, with the camera priced at $120 and the film at $19.
