Instagram has introduced 'Your Algorithm,' a new feature designed to empower users with greater control over the Reels suggestions they encounter. This tool provides insight into the topics shaping recommendations based on user activity and AI analysis. Users can then actively adjust these suggestions, opting to see more of certain content or less of others, leading to a more personalized feed.
The feature, initially available in the US and rolling out globally, appears within the Reels tab. Users can access it by tapping an icon on a Reel, revealing a summary of their top interests. This summary can even be shared, similar to Spotify Wrapped. The core functionality allows users to explicitly manage topic preferences, adding or removing interests to fine-tune their viewing experience.
This initiative marks a significant step towards giving users clearer insight and control over their digital environment. While currently focused on the Reels tab, Instagram plans to expand this control to other areas like the Explore tab in the future. The aim is to enable users to actively shape their overall app experience, moving beyond purely automated content delivery.
