Summary
- First indigenous bullet train manufactured in Bengaluru.
- Designed for a maximum test speed of 280 kmph.
- Features advanced systems for passenger comfort and safety.
India's first indigenous bullet train is currently being manufactured at the Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) facility in Bengaluru. This significant development marks a move away from reliance on foreign technology, with engineers designing the train specifically for India's climate and operational needs.
The train is engineered to achieve a maximum test speed of 280 kmph, with an operational speed of 249 kmph planned for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor. It will span 202 meters and accommodate 557 passengers, including dedicated seats for individuals with reduced mobility.
Passenger comfort is a priority, featuring ergonomically tailored interiors, spacious seating, and wide windows. The train will offer level boarding and be equipped with modern amenities like individual power outlets, LED lighting, and advanced bio-digester toilets. An intelligent on-board control system and comprehensive passenger information systems, including Wi-Fi and LCD displays in multiple languages, will enhance the travel experience.
Accessibility is a key design element, with platform-level boarding, retractable footsteps, and Braille signage for visually impaired passengers. The train will also feature a dual-unit HVAC system for year-round comfort and noise reduction measures. Its energy efficiency is boosted by a smart regenerative braking system, and its aerodynamic design minimizes wind resistance and noise.
