India's Tolls Go Barrier-Free: Millions of Transactions Processed
22 Jul
Summary
- Over 3.04 million vehicle transactions recorded by the new toll system.
- The system has saved 152,129 litres of fuel and cut 395.5 tonnes of CO2.
- This barrier-less tolling system allows vehicles to pass without stopping.
The Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system implemented on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) has successfully processed over 3.04 million vehicle transactions since its introduction. This innovative, barrier-less approach allows vehicles to pass tolling points without the need to stop, facilitating an average of over 50,000 transactions per day.
This new system, a collaboration between Bosch Mobility Platform and Solutions and IDFC FIRST Bank, has demonstrated significant real-world advantages. It has contributed to substantial fuel savings, with an estimated 152,129 litres conserved, and a reduction in CO2 emissions totaling approximately 395.5 tonnes.
The MLFF system integrates advanced technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and RFID/FASTag compatibility. By eliminating physical bottlenecks, it enhances traffic flow, reduces congestion, and provides highway operators with automated processing and improved operational visibility.
Bosch highlights this deployment as a prime example of digital infrastructure delivering tangible benefits, promoting faster movement, reduced fuel wastage, and more efficient highway travel. This initiative supports India's ongoing modernization of its road infrastructure and the development of a more connected, sustainable transportation ecosystem.
