India's Digital ID App Surpasses 40 Million Downloads

India's Ministry of Electronics and IT reports that the Aadhaar digital ID application has surpassed 40 million downloads. This surge indicates a growing preference for digital-first identity solutions among citizens. The application is increasingly utilized as a central hub for various Aadhaar-related services, enabling convenient updates for addresses, mobile numbers, and emails.

Since its introduction, users have completed millions of address, mobile, and email updates via the app. The service also highlights robust security measures, with over 19 million biometric lock and unlock actions recorded. Launched in January, the Aadhaar app aims to streamline identity services, reducing the need for physical visits and enhancing the ease of living.

Globally, mobile-first digital identity management is gaining traction. India's Aadhaar system, supporting over 1.3 billion users, forms the bedrock of its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Stack. This system is viewed as a model for other nations and aligns with the Digital India Mission's goal of fostering a national digital trust framework and driving economic growth.
