Skip Your PIN: Biometric UPI Now at ICICI

ICICI Bank has introduced a new biometric authentication service for UPI transactions up to Rs 5,000 through its iMobile app. This feature allows customers to authorize payments using fingerprint or facial recognition, streamlining the process and enhancing security for smaller amounts. The biometric option is available on the latest versions of the iMobile app for both Android and iOS devices.

This advancement means users no longer need to manually enter their UPI PIN for transactions below Rs 5,000, offering a faster and more secure payment experience. For any transactions exceeding this limit, the existing UPI PIN will still be required. This initiative aligns with regulatory guidelines and aims to provide a seamless and secure payment environment.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) had previously introduced the facility for UPI payments up to Rs 5,000 using biometrics in October 2025. ICICI Bank's implementation offers a user-friendly alternative to traditional PIN-based authentication, enhancing convenience and reducing the risk of unauthorized access in public spaces.
