South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are preparing to significantly boost India's hybrid car market. Their strategy involves introducing several new hybrid models, focusing on improved fuel efficiency without relying on extensive charging networks.
The Hyundai Creta is anticipated to receive a strong hybrid powertrain, potentially a hybrid version of its 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, by 2027. This would position it against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Similarly, the Kia Seltos Hybrid is expected to launch in India by 2027, featuring a 1.6-liter petrol hybrid powertrain globally producing 178 hp. Kia also plans to introduce the Carnival Hybrid, equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine and an electric motor, to its premium lineup.
Additionally, Hyundai is reportedly developing a larger three-row SUV with a possible hybrid option. These strong hybrid vehicles combine gasoline engines with electric motors and batteries, requiring no external charging.
