Summary
- Hyundai's proprietary driver software launch delayed to late 2029.
- Advanced driver-assistance systems will launch in 2028 with Nvidia.
- Hyundai aims to lead in autonomous driving data by 2033.
Hyundai Motor Group announced a significant shift in its autonomous driving strategy, delaying the launch of its proprietary driver-assistance software to late 2029, two years behind its original schedule. To expedite the process, the South Korean automaker has entered into a partnership with chip giant Nvidia.
This collaboration will see Hyundai deploying advanced driver-assistance systems, categorized as Level 2+ and Level 2++, starting in 2028. These systems will initially utilize cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar, with considerations for lidar in future Level 3 systems.
The move highlights Hyundai's challenges in internal software development. The company plans to use data gathered through the Nvidia-powered systems to train and enhance its own software, named Atria. Hyundai anticipates achieving a leading position in accumulated driving data by 2033.
