HP IQ: Local AI Powers Future Workplace
2 Apr
Summary
- HP repurposed Humane AI's failed hardware into a workplace platform.
- HP IQ focuses on on-device AI and proximity-based device collaboration.
- The platform is set to launch in Spring 2026 on EliteBook X G2 AI PCs.

In early 2025, HP acquired Humane AI, a startup whose AI Pin hardware experienced significant issues and ultimately failed in the market. HP is now transforming this technology into HP IQ, a commercial platform designed to integrate local artificial intelligence and proximity-based collaboration across its device ecosystem.
Central to HP IQ is HP NearSense, a spatial intelligence system that allows HP devices to discover and interact with each other. This feature facilitates instant sharing of documents and media between nearby devices and simplifies joining meetings with a single click. Future expansions aim to integrate this technology with Poly video conferencing hardware and other HP devices for enhanced connectivity.
HP IQ operates primarily on-device using a 20 billion-parameter AI model, ensuring that sensitive personal files are not sent to the cloud without explicit enterprise permission. The Visor interface provides contextual actions and insights, accepting voice and text inputs. The AI's current capabilities include summarizing documents and transcribing audio, though it does not yet possess advanced reasoning or autonomous task execution.
HP plans to roll out HP IQ starting in Spring 2026 on EliteBook X G2 AI PCs, with a broader deployment to notebooks, desktops, and Poly devices later in the year. This initiative aims to create a more fluid and connected work experience, reducing digital friction for employees while providing IT departments with centralized control and security management through the HP Workforce Experience Platform.
