Summary
- Built-in gimbal offers superior stabilization and subject tracking.
- Honor phone faces off against iPhone 17 Pro Max video capabilities.
- Robot Phone launched in China at RMB 9,999, no global release yet.

Honor's new Robot Phone has been officially unveiled, featuring a groundbreaking three-axis gimbal-mounted camera. This innovation allows for significantly enhanced video stabilization and subject tracking, capabilities that set it apart from the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The device, available in China starting August 20 for RMB 9,999 (approximately $1,480), aims to integrate professional-grade gimbal features into a smartphone.
During testing, the Honor Robot Phone demonstrated superior handling of movement and an ability to physically track subjects, features not found on the iPhone. This subject tracking is particularly useful for recording oneself or others without constant manual adjustments. However, the iPhone 17 Pro Max retains an edge in low-light conditions, producing less noise, and offers true 4K resolution for vertical video.
Despite these distinctions, Honor has managed to pack the Robot Phone with flagship-level specifications. It includes a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and a substantial 7,060mAh battery, all powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. While a definitive winner against the iPhone remains to be determined through further testing, Honor's gimbal phone presents a compelling package with unique video recording advantages.
