Honor has unveiled its Magic 9 Pro Max, a smartphone designed to elevate mobile video production through an exclusive partnership with ARRI, a world leader in cinema camera technology. This collaboration integrates ARRI's sophisticated color science and professional "Looks" into the smartphone's camera application.
Users of the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max can now access features previously exclusive to high-end ARRI cameras, such as the "ARRI Cinema" mode. This mode supports a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, mirroring theatrical releases, and allows for the application of ARRI's "Looks" library and custom LUT files.
During demonstrations, footage captured on the Magic 9 Pro Max with ARRI settings showed comparable color shading and detail to that of an ARRI Alexa cinema camera, highlighting the advanced capabilities brought to a mobile device. The phone also features a 200-megapixel wide and telephoto camera system, a large 8,000-mAh battery, and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor.
While Honor has not yet announced pricing or a release date, the Magic 9 Pro Max will not be available in the US. The phone also runs on Android 17 with MagicOS 11 and includes features like Quick Share for file transfer, indicating Honor's ambition to compete with established players like Apple in the high-end smartphone market.
