14 Jun
Summary
- New RGB mini-LED tech is now available in mid-range TVs.
- Hisense UR8 and Samsung QN80H are similarly priced.
- UR8 offers better viewing angles and backlight control than QN80H.

Hisense has brought its RGB mini-LED technology to more accessible mid-range televisions with the UR8 model, a significant advancement from its initial high-end launch. This new technology is now directly competing with established mini-LED displays, such as the Samsung QN80H. Interestingly, the pricing for a 65-inch Hisense UR8 is nearly identical to that of the 65-inch Samsung QN80H.
In side-by-side comparisons, the Samsung QN80H initially presented more vibrant colors and impactful highlights. However, the Hisense UR8 demonstrated superior performance in backlight control and viewing angles, mitigating issues like clouding and blooming seen on the Samsung model. The UR8 also offers better reflection handling due to its anti-glare layer.
While the UR8's out-of-the-box color accuracy was found to be less impressive than the QN80H's, it offers significant improvements in uniformity and viewing experience. Despite requiring some picture setting adjustments, the Hisense UR8 represents a notable step towards bringing OLED-like strengths to more affordable mini-LED TVs.
