Sony Bans Trophy Champ After Hacker's Revenge
11 Mar
Summary
- Record-holding PSN account banned due to alleged hacker manipulation.
- Hacker sought revenge after user spoke out about account security.
- Sony's customer support issues may enable account hijacking.

David Tremblay, owner of the PSN account dav1d_123 and a Guinness World Record holder for gaming trophies, has had his account permanently suspended by Sony. This action is believed to be the result of a hacker manipulating Sony's system as retaliation. Tremblay had recently spoken out about the threat of account hijacking on PlayStation consoles.
The hacker, who had previously extorted Tremblay, reportedly targeted his account after he contributed to an article detailing PlayStation account security flaws. Tremblay suspects the hacker exploited Sony's reporting system by sending rule-breaking messages from Tremblay's compromised account, which were then reported to Sony.
Sony's suspension email cited Tremblay's alleged attempt to sell items, accounts, or services. This comes amid broader concerns about PlayStation account security, with many accounts being sold online. Hackers can reportedly bypass two-factor authentication and passkeys by exploiting Sony's customer support chatbot with personal information obtained from compromised accounts.
This situation echoes similar incidents, such as the permanent suspension of top trophy hunter Hakoom's account in 2024. Sony has yet to comment on Tremblay's specific case, and his attempts to resolve the issue with customer support have been met with unhelpful responses. The suspension has removed Tremblay's account from the PSN trophy leaderboard.
