Guide01: Turn Dumb Glasses Into Smart Ones

A new smart glasses attachment, the Guide01, aims to bring augmented reality features to everyday eyewear. This compact, 10g device affixes to the arm of standard glasses, providing a heads-up display (HUD) for navigation, notifications, and other information. Unlike bulkier smart glasses, the Guide01's primary appeal lies in its minimal weight, significantly lighter than comparable products.

The Guide01 sports a full-color OLED display, a notable feature compared to monochrome alternatives. Its resolution is competitive, and it offers 1,200 nits of brightness, suitable for outdoor visibility. However, a significant drawback is its battery life, offering only 90 minutes per charge. Fortunately, it includes a portable charging case for on-the-go top-ups, ideal for intermittent use.

This crowd-funded accessory is currently in prototype stages, with a price point around $218. While its short battery life may deter some, it presents an intriguing option for users seeking a lightweight way to add smart capabilities to their existing prescription or non-prescription glasses, especially for short, focused tasks.
