GTA 6 Console 60fps A Long Shot
28 Aug
Summary
- Digital Foundry deems 60fps on consoles for GTA 6 extremely unlikely.
- The game's extended look showcased impressive real-time rendering at 30fps.
- Hitting 60fps on PC will also be genuinely challenging, requiring high-end CPUs.

Achieving a 60 frames per second frame rate for Grand Theft Auto 6 on current-generation consoles is deemed "extremely unlikely" by performance analysis experts. The recently released extended look footage has been praised as "the most impressive example of real-time game rendering" ever witnessed, maintaining a stable 30fps output.
Analysts suggest that Rockstar Games has intentionally targeted 30fps to prioritize unparalleled visual detail and world coherence. This focus on maximizing fidelity means console hardware may not possess sufficient GPU and CPU power to support a 16.7ms update rate required for 60fps without significant compromises.
Furthermore, even the anticipated PC version faces substantial hurdles. While capable of higher resolutions and benefiting from upscaling technologies, the game's complex world simulation is expected to demand high-end CPUs, making a consistent 60fps performance "genuinely challenging."
Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. The game is also estimated to take up to 80 hours to complete.
