New Googlebooks Tested: Snapdragon Outperforms Intel
7 Oct
Summary
- Snapdragon X Elite chips show 50% better performance than Intel Core Ultra 5.
- Battery life significantly trails advertised hours in demanding tests.
- MacBook Air models with M5 chips still lead in raw performance benchmarks.

New Googlebooks have undergone initial lab testing, revealing performance disparities between their processors. Laptops equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chip demonstrated roughly 50% superior multi-core performance compared to those featuring Intel's Core Ultra 5 Panther Lake processor.
In GPU performance benchmarks, the Snapdragon-powered Googlebooks also outperformed their Intel counterparts, though none reached a consistent 60 frames per second in demanding tests. Apple's MacBook Air models with M5 chips continue to lead in overall raw performance across various benchmarks.
A significant concern identified is battery life. While Google advertises 14-hour endurance, independent testing under more rigorous conditions showed considerably shorter runtimes, with some models barely reaching six and a half hours. This contrasts sharply with competing laptops that offer over 20 hours of battery life.
Despite these findings, Googlebooks offer seamless interoperability for Android users and integrate Gemini for unique features. While impressive, the devices are not yet mind-blowing, with battery performance being a key area for improvement.
